Prevention is better than cure
Visiting the dentist every 6 months is vital in maintaining good oral hygiene.
American Dental Association recommends seeing a dentist twice a year. Regular dental visits are essential for the maintenance of good oral hygiene and a healthy smile. It is important to have regular dental check-ups and make them an essential part of your basic oral care regime. These will allow for your dental specialist/ dentist to find early signs of disease and problems (if any) that can be treated at a manageable stage.
What are dental check-ups?
Dental check-ups are essential for the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums. Dental specialists/ dentists can help spot oral health problems early on when treatment is likely to be simpler and more affordable.
What to expect during a dental check-up
Our dental specialists/ dentists will find out the details of your medical and dental history. He or she will assess the health of your teeth and gums by:
Taking X-rays
Examining the gums
Looking for signs of gum disease
Checking for loose teeth
Looking at the tissues inside your mouth
Examining your tongue
Checking your bite
Looking for visual evidence of tooth decay
Checking for broken teeth
Checking for damaged fillings
Looking for changes in the gums covering teeth
Checking the contact between your teeth
Consultation and treatment (if necessary) should be completed within a half an hour. Sometimes, where complicated treatment may be required, the process may take a longer time. If your schedule does not allow it, our dental specialist/ dentist will schedule for you to make a repeat visit on another day for further treatment.
Besides the 6-monthly dental check-up, you should have a good home care regime to maintain healthy teeth and gums in-between dental visits. Brush and floss your teeth twice a day or after each meal to remove plaque build-up. Include foods that are good for your teeth like fruits and vegetables, whole grains and dairy products like cheese and milk into your diet.
