Enhance the structural support of your jaw
Bone grafting is needed when there is a defect in the bone which occurs after long term tooth loss or traumatic tooth loss. Bone grafts prepare the jaw bone to accept dental implants or enhance the support around failing teeth. The procedure may be performed after the extraction of infected teeth in order to preserve the site for future implant placement. There are also times that bone is grafted to offer improved support for dentures.
What is bone grafting?
When one has an insufficient bone to support dental implants or dentures, bone needs to be added via a bone graft procedure.
The graft material can be processed sterile bone material produced by laboratories, or harvested from one’s own body.
What is involved in getting a bone graft?
Our dental specialists/ dentists will find out the details of your medical and dental history, go through a consultation and examination and take a digital X-ray of your teeth to enable a thorough and detailed diagnosis, to ascertain if you require bone grafting.
Bone grafting is a minor surgical procedure that can usually be performed within minutes. In general, the length of the procedure is approximately proportional to the size of the grafting area.
Our dentists/ dental specialists will anesthetize the recipient site and gently open up the gums. Bone graft material would be placed underneath the gum
After the procedure, medication will be given to reduce post-treatment discomfort and to ensure uneventful speedy healing.

Frequently asked questions
When is bone augmentation or bone graft surgery required?
Bone grafts help in the placement of dental implants and replace missing gums. Bone graft surgeries are commonly done to improve the oral tissue to support replacement teeth. For a bigger bone graft, they may be harvested from the hip.
What is the downtime for the procedure?
For smaller bone grafts, sterile materials from a vial will be sufficient. For larger bone graft procedures, a few days of rest may be needed. For smaller procedures, the rest time could be minimal.
