The big day finally arrived for our runners. They gathered early in the morning at 4 am in anticipation for the race to start at 5am sharp. Other running categories for the day included the Full Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.1 km), 10 km Wheelchair and Kids Dash.
Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore is such an important event that even the MRT operating hours were pushed forward to start as early as 2:29 am for Bukit Panjang LRT system, and at 2.45am for the rest of the main lines. Selected buses also started at 3am. Under normal circumstances, our Bus and MRT operate at 5:30 am daily. The run was even broadcasted live on StarHub TV!
This run is special for our team because this is the first time Specialist Dental Group is running for charity. Our chosen charity is Rainbow Centre Building Fund. To know more about Rainbow Centre and to show your support for our cause, please click here.
For the Ekiden team relay, each team was assigned a sash with an identification number so that our runners would be tagged. The first runner had to pass the sash to the ensuing runners and so on until the last runner. Dr Steven Soo, our dental specialist in prosthodontics, was the first runner, followed by the ladies who come from a mix of clinical and non-clinical staff. The last sprint towards the finishing line at the Padang was completed by Dr Neo Tee Khin.
Team Specialist Dental Group is a strong team of running enthusiasts, and their trainings certainly paid off as they huffed and puffed to the finish line. Some of their families and our fellow colleagues were also there to lend moral support.
Our team ended the race in 09:30 hours, putting our team in the 49th position among the 177 teams. Good job Team Specialist Dental Group! You have done well!
