In a blink of an eye, it has been two years since the arrival of Covid-19 caused a global uproar across governments to keep the pandemic at bay. The world is slowly embracing the new normal. Businesses and the reopening of borders to travel recovered faster than expected. As we count our blessings and reflect on our accomplishments in 2022, it’s good to slow down from the hectic hustle-bustle in everyday life before we start a new year! This blog post shares some highlights of Specialist Dental Group (and the fun side of things).
Celebrating togetherness
After a two-year hiatus of big gatherings, we could finally gather as a whole at our annual company dinner with our lovely colleagues and suppliers! It was a night filled with fun, love, and laughter with the team.
Newest addition to the team!
We are delighted to introduce our newest orthodontist, Dr Soh Shean Han, who joined our group in August. She received her specialty training in Orthodontics from University of Washington-Health Sciences School of Dentistry, USA. She is also a Senior Lecturer with National University of Singapore.
Dr Soh decided to become an Orthodontist because she derives great satisfaction from helping her patients achieve a great smile, which boost their self-esteem. In addition to achieving more than 20 awards during her dentistry and Orthodontics training, she also completed a diploma in Law out of interest. To unwind from the hustle and bustle of daily life, she enjoys exploring the nature or sitting down at a quaint café with her book.

SDG education awards
It is with great joy that we recognize the hard work of our colleagues’ children who had excelled or made significant improvement in their studies. We hope the award will encourage our children to continue giving their best in their academic endeavours. Keep up the good work, Jayden Goh and Catrina Poo!
Sharing of expertise
Dental health plays an important role to your overall health. Our dental specialists set time aside from their busy schedules to educate and raise dental awareness to the public.
Dr Tan Kian Meng, Prosthodontist, spoke with DJ Anna (安娜) from 96.3 好FM to share more about tongue cancer including its symptoms, risk factors and how to treat it. He also shared with listeners of CNA 938 radio program “Health Matters” about how does oral health affect gut health.
Dr Irene Sim, Endodontist, shared about “Dentine Hypersensitivity” alongside with fellow clinicians in the Philippines at the 113th PDA Annual Convention and Scientific Sessions organized by GSK. It was an honor to be given such an opportunity to speak to more than 2,500 delegates online and on-site.
She was also invited to speak at the VDW Global Opinion Leaders Forum attended by fellow clinicians from Europe, US, and Asia.
On the newspaper side of things, Dr Irene Sim was also featured to share some dental tips during the lunar new year. We are also proud to see that one of our dental surgery assistants, Lavinya, featured in The Straits Times’ Life section alongside with her mom. She has been with our dental group for almost 15 years and we are grateful to have her on our team.
Giving back to community
We believe that it is always important to give back to the community one way or another. In Singapore, there are many ways to support causes that we are passionate about. One of our dental specialists in prosthodontics, Dr Neo Tee Khin, cycled more than 250km over two days from Malacca to Singapore with Ride for Rations to raise funds for beneficiaries.
Ride for Rations is organised by Bike Aid (Singapore) where participants embark on non-competitive long-distance cycling to raise awareness of hunger in Singapore.
Another yearly tradition is to raise funds for a charity voted for by our colleagues. Autism Association (Singapore) has been the selected charity for two years. We are finalising the donation amount. Every dollar donated by the team members would be matched dollar-for-dollar by the company. We are finalising the donation amount. We hope that the amount raised will help to build a sustainable future for children, youths and adults on the autism spectrum.
That’s a wrap for 2022! We would like to thank all patients, family and friends for your continuous support. Here’s wishing everyone good health, wealth and new blessings to count each day in 2023. May this new year be the best one yet!
