Oral Health & You: Specialists’ Perspectives, a nationwide seminar on managing common dental problems through expertise and modern dentistry, successfully completed on 19 August 2017 (Saturday).
Jointly organised by Channel NewsAsia, this is the fifth edition of Specialist Dental Group’s flagship biennial dental seminar. It is our mission to engage the public through educational seminars/talks and empower the public in making informed decisions.
Speaking to a crowd that is close to 500 people, our dental specialists addressed various dental issues that are common and yet neglected.
Lumps, Ulcers, Cysts & Other Oral Conditions: Alarm Bells?
Dr Ho Kok Sen, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon (Dental Specialist in Oral & Jaw Surgery), emphasised on the importance of visiting your dentist twice a year as early prevention is better than cure. The audience learned about cases of patients where early detection of lumps, ulcers, cysts, oral lesions etc helped to save patients’ time and resources. They also gained insights into the various warning signs to look out for so that they are alert to changes in one’s oral condition.
Bleeding Gums, Receding Gums & Sensitive Teeth: What’s The Link?
Dr Daylene Leong, Periodontist (Dental Specialist in Gum Treatment), focused on gum disease – a dental issue which is very prevalent and commonly seen in patients. Through the talk, the audience learned about the stages of gum disease, the importance of keeping one’s gums healthy, how gum disease affects our overall health and how gum disease can be prevented and treated.
Root Canal Treatment: What Do I Need To Know?
Dr Irene Sim, Endodontist (Dental Specialist in Root Canal Treatment), answered various commonly asked questions about root-canal treatment including what is root canal treatment, when is it required, how is it done, what are some of the myths about root canal treatment and how to care for a tooth that underwent root canal treatment.
Dentistry in the 21st Century: How Does It Benefit Me?
Dr Neo Tee Khin, Prosthodontist (Dental Specialist in Teeth Replacement & Cosmetic Dentistry), zoomed into the importance of teeth, restoration and replacement of teeth, as well as stress-induced dental issues.
The afternoon concluded with a Question & Answer with our panel of speakers, where audience could ask any dental-related questions they have. Following which, we had a lucky draw where over $3,000 worth of prizes were given out to three lucky participants.
In all, it was a fruitful afternoon and we are very heartened to receive many positive feedback from the audience.
