Well it’s not even been a year in Singapore and we were delighted to be expecting our second child, Cora. This is on top of the move from the UK with a 2 year old, having lived in three places, finding two schools, sitting and passing the Singapore Prosthodontic Specialist Registration exam and starting a new job. We can’t be accused of doing things by halves! When we found out my wife, Meloney was expecting, it was a natural choice to have the delivery at Mount Elizabeth. Not only was it convenient, as I work here, but I have gotten to know the other Doctors and can vouch for Mount Elizabeth’s reputation for health care in SE Asia.
Our first child was born in London under the care of the National Health Service. This is something the UK is to be proud of and is the envy of many countries, but public health care cannot be fairly compared with private health care.
Our Obstetrician is Dr Suresh Nair and we can confidently say that the care provided by him and his team could not be bettered. Being able to discuss issues directly with him at any time of day was very reassuring. Our 2 day stay at Mount Elizabeth was comparable to a stay in a 5 star hotel – we didn’t want to leave! The staff in the delivery and maternity wards were courteous, attentive and sensitive to how Mum (and Dad) were feeling at this exciting but stressful time.
In this year we have made some good friends who all gave Cora a warm Singaporean welcome into the world. We were showered with gifts from people who really haven’t known us for long and feel flattered that our new friends did this for us.
Our first year here has been truly eventful and looking back we have no regrets we made Singapore our new home. The four of us are now looking forwards to exciting times ahead.
