December is a time for celebration and spending time with your family. For many of us, it is also a time to wrap up the last few events before ringing in the New Year.
Let’s recap and reflect on some of the milestones that Specialist Dental Group® (SDG) has achieved this year:
Specialist Dental Group® Flagship Bi-Annual Dental Seminar with Channel NewsAsia
This year, SDG saw a great turnout of 500 participants who spent an informative afternoon to learn more about dental health with five of our leading dental specialists. Our theme this year is “Bite Into Better Dental Health”.
The bi-annual dental seminar with Channel NewsAsia (CNA) covered topics from orthodontics (teeth straightening treatment), periodontics (relationship between oral health and overall general health), prosthodontics (teeth replacement/restoration procedure), oral surgery and the functional aspects of cosmetic dentistry.
New members of SDG Family
We are happy to announce two new dentists, Dr Steven Soo and Dr May Ling Eide, a prosthodontist and a UK trained orthodontist respectively, from the UK to join our clinic earlier this year.
Dr Soo’s addition makes our implant team 7-member strong. He moved to Singapore with his wife and three year old daughter, and is now expecting baby no.2 in the first quarter next year.
Dr Eide’s expertise lies in teeth alignment treatment using metal braces (ceramic and self-ligating). Dr Eide is also an Invisalign accredited dentist and she is able to converse fluently in both Mandarin and Norwegian. Dr Eide has a knack with children and teenagers and she enjoys working with them!
Opening of fourth clinic at Gleneagles Medical Centre
We are proud to announce that we have our new fourth clinic at Gleneagles Medical Centre, which is in a different physical location from the three Mount Elizabeth Orchard clinics, in July this year.
Dr Edwin Tan, a prosthodontist, is heading our Gleneagles clinic. Dr Tan is also a Senior Adjunct Lecturer with the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the National University of Singapore.
Website Revamp
In SDG, we all strive to improve. This year, we revamped our website so that you can have a better surfing experience. All the information from the minor dental issue that is bugging you, to details on post-treatment care, as well as the fees involved is laid out for you to make an informed decision.
Appointments and enquiries can be sent in to us and we have dedicated staff that will respond within 24 hours.
New procedures available in our clinic:
- Square Jaw Reduction – Surgical and Non-surgical (Botox®)
The latest service provided by our clinic is square jaw reduction procedure. Square jaw reduction can create an almond shaped face shape for ladies and a youthful sleek look for the men. There are two types of procedures available; which is surgical and non-surgical.
The surgical reduction of square jaw may be carried out as a day surgical procedure under general anesthesia. Alternatively, the patient may be admitted as an inpatient for the procedure. Hospital stay will be for 2 days and 1 night.
Non-Surgical procedure for square jaw reduction is a simple 10-minute procedure consisting of a few tiny injections. Recovery time is minimal and most people return to normal activities immediately after treatment. After injection, it takes about 3 days for Botox® to begin taking affect and around 7 days to see the full results.
- All-on-4 Dental Implant Procedure
Typically, patients opting for a dental implant procedure will need sufficient bone in their jaw so that the bone foundation is strong enough to hold and support the implant.
The All-on-4 Procedure is an efficient treatment even for those with minimum bone volume as it allows immediate loading after the surgery and enables the patient to have teeth almost immediately. The All-on-4 Procedure is suitable for those who are missing all their teeth on either jaw, or patients who are at risk for losing all their teeth.
Polliwogs Childcare Dental Visit
We always emphasize that good oral care habits start from young and we practice what we preach! In November this year, we have about 50 kids from Polliwogs Childcare who visited our clinic to familiarize themselves with visiting the dentist.
Dr May Ling Eide gave an informative and interactive talk to the children and parents on the correct tooth brushing methods and bad dental habits to avoid (such as falling asleep with the pacifiers).
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project
For our CSR Project this year, Specialist Dental Group dentists and staff donated a total of $14,810 to help support two organizations, Rainbow Centre Singapore and Singapore Red Cross for Typhoon Haiyan Relief.
Dr Elizabeth Tan has been a volunteer with the Dental Clinic since 1999 and our pediatric dental nurses also help at the dental clinic on a regular basis. A majority of our colleagues also come from The Philippines.
Looking back, it has certainly been an eventful year for all of us at SDG. With this; we want to take the opportunity to express gratitude to our patients and online readers for being with us every step of the way. We hope to serve you better in the new year. Most important of all, we wish everyone a healthy, successful and blessed year ahead.
