Nurses are the right-hand men (or women) in our case of our dentists.
Did you know that before nurses were officially recognised as a profession, the role was probably fulfilled by nuns and the military? Before the end of the 19th century, there was no formal training, and many nurses were typically women who provided the sick, injured and wounded with comfort, but not necessarily medical care. Then came along Florence Nightingale (1820 – 1910), who in spite of her parents’ disapproval, dedicated her life to serving humanity, and not only reformed nursing as it had existed in her time, but also laid the foundation for nursing as a profession.
Fast forward to 2013, where we have professional bodies like the Singapore Nursing Board to uphold professional nursing standards and honour public trust, our nurses have come a long way.
Happy Nurses Day to all nurses out there!
Thank you for the work and dedication, and thank you for caring for our patients.
