2010 will be soon replaced by 2011. It is time to look back and reflect a little.
2010 started off with my elder daughter going to primary school. As far as my wife and I are concerned, as long as the girls are enjoying their school experience and keep up with their reading at home, we are happy. Measuring from those angles, both of our girls did very well.
From hind-sight, little did I expect my wife and I to have to do so much for our little girls beyond their schooling. Our girls got more and more into their dance class, they loved it so much that their teachers got them involved with a kids show on television.
On the professional front, I have had a few interesting cases at our clinic in Singapore. Beyond that, I have more than enough overseas professional engagements in 2010.
When I told my post-graduate students that they have to be prepared to speak/lecture in the future, most of them did not believe me. I was like that when I was younger. Now I understand that lecturing to a hall of a few hundred professionals is a very enjoyable experience after all.
In May, my wife and I went to Omaha, USA for one of my speaking engagements. The US immigration/custom was doing a fantastically meticulous job in seeking out terrorists when we hopped off the airplane – the net result was that we ended up missing our connecting flight to Omaha. It happened to be the weekend of a major event in Omaha city where thousands of people flock in there and air travel was super tight. We ended up spending a night at the Minneapolis airport and missed out my speaking engagement all together!! Our consolation prize was that we managed to meet up with a good friend, his lovely wife and their 4 kids when we finally arrived at Omaha. We certainly enjoyed all the good food we had there too.
In October, my wife and I went to Toronto as I was a Prosthodontic Examiner for the Royal College of Dentists, Canada. My super-energetic wife managed to pack in some extra meetings with friends, family and ex-colleagues there. There was so much to catch up in terms of life and food. The city and the air was so familiar that we felt like we never left Toronto to start off!!
2011 will be interesting because my 2 little daughters will be going to the same primary school. For sure 2011 will be replaced by 2012 in another few hundred days. Stay tuned for more updates.
