Invisalign – A New Way to Straighten Teeth…. Without Anyone Knowing
May 13th, 2009 | Published in Braces, Information, Invisalign, Video | 74 Comments
Invisalign was launched in Singapore in 2005 (it was launched in 2002 in Hong Kong and Australia). Specialist Dental Group has four Invisalign-accredited dentists on our team, including Dr Eugene Chan and Dr Patricia Yeong. Gone are the days of the “metal mouth”…. with Invisalign, you can go about your daily activities with minimal disruption to your schedule. You can also eat anything you like as the aligners are removed for meals, and put on again after you have brushed your teeth….this also leads to better oral hygiene.
Background Facts
* Invisalign has been around for about 10 years in the USA – over 950,000 patients have been treated worldwide
* More than 52,000 dentists have been trained in Invisalign
* Over 500 new Invisalign cases everyday
* Over 20 million aligners have been shipped worldwide
How Invisalign Works

Invisalign uses clear aligners to move teeth. The aligners are changed every two weeks, allowing gradual movement of teeth and minimizing discomfort. These aligners are customized for every patient. Patients are generally given three sets of aligners and they only see the dentist every 6 weeks to check on the progress of their case. Thus, there is reduced frequency of appointments needed compared with braces which requires appointments on a monthly basis.
Key Benefits of Invisalign

1) Teeth are straightened invisibly – as mentioned above, few people can tell that you are wearing Invisalign….it is analogous to wearing contact lenses. Patients using Invisalign smile more during treatment and it does not affect their social life.
2) Invisalign aligners are removable – you can eat or drink anything and can easily brush/floss your teeth resulting in beetter oral hygiene. Studies have shown that Invisalign wearers have better oral hygiene and less gum problems compared with braces patients.
3) Comfortable – since there are no brackets, there are fewer abrasions to the mouth during treatment. The teeth also feel less sore since less force is used as the aligners are changed every two weeks, compared with the monthly adjustment for braces.
The Invisalign Consultation
Your dentist will examine your dental condition and discuss with you the various options to straighten your teeth, including the advantages and disadvantages of each method. If you decide to proceed with Invisalign, an impression of your teeth will be taken as well as a photograph (front and profile) of your current dental condition.
Your dental impression will be sent to a CT scanning machine and incorporated into the ClinCheck 3D animation software. This is a web-based computer program which will show the movement of your teeth from start to finish. Your dentist will discuss the ClinCheck case with you and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. Once approved, all the clear customized aligners required for Invisalign treatment will be fabricated. For more information on Invisalign, please click here.

Hi
Im very much interested in Invisalign but would like to know the cost & how effective can it be and also can they last forever after my teeth are all being straighten using Invisalign?
Since i was a kid, my top front teeth are slightly protuding out which actually making me not only feeling uncomfortable but also totally no confident in smiling & talking to anyone. Im quite rejected to use normal braces due to unpleasant looks especially in working places.
2 mths back, ive done an extraction with one of the tooth at the very top right hand side of my front teeth (like tiger tooth) and since then have put on crown to cover the hole. For my upper teeth, other than the protuding problem…my teeth are actually straight. But my lower teeth are much crooked.
My question is, with the crown on my upper teeth….can Invisalign be done to help the protuding problem? Frankly, im very insatisfied with the crown as it make the protuding look even obvious & serious. I have talk to my doc before its done but he doesn’s seems to bother since after the full payment made. Im hoping other professional dental can help me with my problems especially with my protuding teeth. Would also like to know what type of cases Invisalign cannot be done? Hope im not one of them & also hope its not too costly for me.
Btw, how much does it cost for the invisible braces? Just curious….
Thanks you very much!
Hope to hear from you soon……

Dear Low
thank you for your enquiry. We have sent you an email separately in response.
After Invisalign treatment is completed (which can be anywhere between a few months to 2-3 years), we advise our patients to continue wearing a retainer. This is to ensure that the best results are maintained in the long term. Retainers should be worn on a full-time basis for the first few months after treatment is complete, and thereafter, they should be worn when sleeping.
All teeth straightening procedures, whether braces or Invisalign, would need regular use of retainers to maintain the results. Over time, failure to wear the retainers can result in movement of the teeth (a “relapse”) – the severity of the relapse would be different from one patient to another. More information on wearing retainers after braces can be found at: http://www.specialistdentalgroup.com/specialty/retainers.php#
In terms of your concern about wearing braces due to the unaesthetic appearance of the braces, the braces used today are very different from in the past:
- metal braces are smaller and thinner – in some cases, we found that patients actually asked for metal braces as they also liked to change the colour of the modules (rubber tie rings on braces) according to the festival, e.g. red and green for Christmas.
Other more aesthetic options for braces wearers include ceramic or tooth coloured braces and lingual braces (attached to the back of the teeth).
Our crown specialists should be able to assist with your crown, and work together with our Invisalign specialists to provide you with comprehensive care under one roof. In terms of cases in which Invisalign is not as suitable, this is best discussed during a consultation with an Invisalign dentist after he or she has had a chance to examine your dental condition.

Hi, is invisalign as effective as braces?
Does it require to remove teeth at the back as all of my friends did before wearing braces…
I have 2 protruding teeth at the center top, other than that my teeth are pretty neat and straight.
That means I can choose not to wear at the bottom and it will be cheaper?
Please mail me the cost for invisalign.
Thank you very much!

Hi,
I have gotten braces before and am considering Invisalign as I am having a relapse. Will this be possible? I would like to know the cost of the treatment and the amount of time it might take. Also, what are the options of maintenance post-treatment? Thanks!
January 18th, 2010 at 11:05 am (#)
thanks for your interest, Nadiah. We have sent you an email directly.
Those who have previously worn braces and then experienced a relapse (i.e. the teeth may have started moving back to the original position)are generally suitable for Invisalign.
In some cases, they may be suitable for Invisalign Express, which has a faster treatment time and lower costs due to fewer number of aligners required. However, this will only be able to be confirmed after consultation with our Invisalign-certified orthodontists.
Maintenance post-treatment is by using a retainer regularly. You will need to wear the retainer on a full time basis for the first six months after completion of treatment and thereafter, you would need to wear the retainer at night.
this applies to both braces treatment and invisalign treatment to maintain the best possible results in the long term.

Hi there,
I’m interested in getting my teeth straightened. I’ve been contemplating for the longest time as I’ve always felt self-conscious about the gap between my two front teeth, the overbite and the overcrowdedness, so it’s about time I get them fixed. I was thinking about getting braces before but has always worried about the discomfort and how obvious they look. I wonder if Invisalign will work for me. Could you send me some information regarding Invisalign and the cost of treatment, please?
Thanks!

Hi,
I would like to know the price of Invisalign treatment and the duration too, also, is the cost a one-time payment or per treatment basis. I’ve heard that Invisalign takes longer than traditional braces is that true?
I have a gap between my 2 front teeth, and also when i bite down my lower jaw tend to move to the left a bit so as to fit in with the upper teeth lineup. Can this condition be treated with Invisalign?
Thank you.

Hi,
I am very interested about invisalign. I have been wanting a set of straight teeth but am reluctant to wear traditional braces hence invisalign seems to be a good alternative.
